This Figure Drawing course gives high school students a welcoming space to grow their artistic skills through a classical, hands-on approach. I teach with patience and high expectations, encouraging students to explore what they’re capable of and discover their own style as they work from the human form. Our model will be dressed in appropriate undergarments, and we focus on learning with respect, maturity, and curiosity. As a high school art teacher who fell in love with figure drawing at thirteen, I know how transformative this practice can be. I love helping teens gain confidence, connect art to real life, and realize that if they can draw the figure, they can draw anything.

We will look at collages by renowned artists and discuss the historical context, the graphic subject matter, as well as the narrative of the work. Students will be encouraged to write their thoughts while in class and also to bring some of the source materials for their collage.
